Beyond The Giant

Lake Superior

ABOUT US:
mystic cabin

The Sleeping Giant is a legendary landform on Lake Superior overlooking the waters of Thunder Bay. Beyond The Giant therefore signifies the pristine land and waters beyond the Sleeping Giant.

OUR GOAL:
To provide a quiet, private, comfortable, eco-friendly commune with nature.

Hundreds of miles of uninhabited coastline, now designated as the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area (NMCA) and The Provincial Great Lakes Heritage Coast, surrounds the Beyond the Giant Nature Retreats. Three miles to the southwest lies Sleeping Giant Provincial Park on a massive peninsula that extends into Lake Superior. The Sleeping Giant landform has the highest vertical cliff faces in central Canada.

We (Bruce and Brenda Wing) found this beautiful lakeshore property in the small community of Pass Lake about 30 years ago and moved from Thunder Bay to the peninsula to pursue our dream of sharing it with other nature lovers. To do this we have slowly and thoughtfully constructed three log cabins along our untouched superior shoreline carefully positioned for maximum privacy and solitude.

Bruce and Brenda WingBeyond The Giant Nature Retreats is not a resort. Our hand-crafted log cabins offer you a rustic environment in very comfortable settings. Peace and tranquility is a priority. With an abundance of wildlife in the area you will have the opportunity to see and hear moose, deer, eagles, osprey, peregrines, otters, beavers and wolves from your cabin or by visiting the park a short distance away.

We are off the grid and firm believers of low impact and sustainable occupation of the land. The cabins are solar powered and offer indoor plumbing with composting toilets and a concentration on conserving… “ Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”.

The Pass Lake Community and the Silver Islet Village reside in Sibley Township, a unique farming and fishing community with almost half its population living off the grid. Silver Islet, located near the end of the peninsula, is a quaint little fishing and recreation community on the Superior shoreline. With a colourful mining past, the village is surrounded by dramatic landforms and coastal islands, has a public dock, general store and gift shop.  Services in the northern farming side of the township include Karens Kountry Kitchen, Pass Lake Campground, the par 4 Lakeview Golf Course and Pass Lake Community centre.

We invite you to come and enjoy the treasures that The Mighty Giant has been sleeping on...
